Chinese Co. Recalls Bikes
October 21, 2002
WASHINGTON (AP) _ A Chinese company is recalling about 2,400
bicycles sold in the United States with defective frames that
could break apart, causing injury to riders.
Lida Bicycle Co. and its U.S. distributor, Kent International
Inc. of Parsippany, N.J., have received four reports of the
frames breaking, resulting in minor injuries to two riders,
the Consumer Product Safety Commission said Thursday. The
recalled bicycles are 26-inch, 21-speed, dual-suspension men's
bicycles with double-bar white frames.
``Kent'' is written on the down tube and head tube of the
bike and a decal reading ``2100DH'' or ``PRO-X'' appears on
the top tube near the head of the bike.
The
bicycles were sold in department stores in Michigan, Ohio,
Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois, and in independent bicycle
shops in New York and New Jersey from April through August
2002. Consumers can return the bicycles to the store where
purchased for a full refund or store credit, or can call 1-800-451-5638
for more information.
