From toxic relationships to weight loss, if you can't seem to get yourself out of unproductive ways, a new book may hold the key to breaking free.

When it came to dating, Laura Kozelouzek's long string of short relationships fit the phrase, "Old habits die hard."

"I would be dating someone, and if one little, specific thing wasn't perfect about them I would, I would sort of end the relationship right away," said Laura Kozelouzek.

She enjoyed living the so-called "fun" single life, "but ultimately my goal was to, to get married and start a family. And for me I couldn't understand why I was dating so many people and couldn't find the right person," Laura said.

She then came across this new book with the hopes it would help her break out of her rut. Ironically, the author had been a longtime skeptic of behavioral change.

"After researching 4,000 different articles, 450 different books, doing hundreds of interviews, I came up, I came to the conclusion that people can actually change their behavior," said Charles Platkin.

The book breaks down the process of change into five basic principles and uses exercises to guide readers through each step. Take note - change takes time and commitment.

"We would spend 10 months of the year okay planning a wedding, which is a six hour or one day event. But when it comes to our own personal life, we don't sit there an... and do that kind of planning," said Charles Platkin.

Platkin says the techniques can be used to break just about any unproductive pattern. The book helped Laura come up with a more realistic set of qualities in a mate. In fact, she discovered the man of her dreams was actually someone she had dated years ago. They were married just months after their reunion.

"Breaking the Pattern" is available at bookstores nationwide. The book is published by Red Mill Press and retails for $24.95. You an also call the publisher at 800-758-3756.
