Reported by Val

A little boy who was out shoveling snow is
being treated for critical
injuries after a tragic
accident.
Somehow the six-year-old ended
up too close to the road and in
the path of a car driven by a
neighbor.
At this
point in the tragic situation,
Action News will not be identifying
either the victim or the driver.
The six-year-old little boy from Auburn
Hills is in
critical but stable condition.
Police tell Action News the 38-year-old
male neighbor who hit him is
shaken.
Investigators were back at the
scene of tragic car accident
on Walton Road Tuesday that's
left a six-year-old boy with
head and internal injuries.
The youngster had accompanied his 12-year-old brother outside
Monday night and was shoveling
snow around the family mailbox
when he was struck by an SUV. The driver turns out to be a man
who lives on the same street.
"He saw the child, but it was
too late to avoid the child.
The driver has fully cooperated
with the investigation.
At this point, we have no reason
to suspect that the driver was
intoxicated.
He is, in fact, the person who
called 9-1-1 and initiated the
emergency response to the scene," said Auburn Hills Police Det. Michael Thomas.
The family is new to the
block, but the boys have become
fast friends with their next door
neighbor's nephews.
"I really hope that he's okay.
I hope everything works out for
his family and that they can get
past this and everything will
work out for them," said next door neighbor Latasha Charles.
Lasers and computers will
help recreate the accident, but
police will also take several
other things into consideration.
"Obviously, the things that
we're going to take into
consideration will be visibility
at that time, the clothing the
child was wearing, the position of
the child, the grade in the
roadway, the speed of the car, as well as
the fact that there may
have been oncoming traffic.
All those things will have to be
taken into consideration," Det. Thomas said.
It will be several weeks
before all those tests are in
and police can finally close
this case.
However, police believe that
this will turn out to be a
tragic accident.
The driver, police tell Action News, did not have alcohol in his
blood and he does have a clean
record.
Again, the little six-year-old
boy is in critical but stable
condition.
He is being cared for at
William-Beaumont Hospital in
Royal Oak.
